The Senegalese government has been trying to get rid of Car Rapides for decades. This is because many Car Rapides are old and some may not be safe. Despite this, Car Rapides remain the most popular form of public transit in Dakar due to their low prices, ease of use, and their ability to take passengers closer to their precise locations than other forms of public transit. Car Rapides go very short distances, many just doing small tours of one area.
